Set the source standard
Decide what authority the question requires and how current the sources must be. Record where each came from.
Search in deliberate passes
Get oriented, then seek authoritative sources. Follow their citations and check for contrary evidence before filling remaining gaps.
Build the evidence structure
Connect each claim to a source and keep its qualifications attached. Record conflicts and unanswered questions.
Synthesize and present
Write what the record supports and state what remains uncertain. Choose a format the reader can use.
